The Elve Associated Electron Density Enhancement and VLF Perturbations

For the behind-the-limb elves, the (0,0) emissions in elves are recorded by ISUAL spectrophotometer channel 3 (SP3) free of the lightning contamination. Through analyzing the behind-the-limb elves that were recorded by ISUAL during 2011-2012, the total number of ions or electrons produced during the ionization process ranges from  to . In 2010-2014, five ISUAL events have occurred within 150 km to the middle point of the great circle path (GCP) between the Japanese VLF transmitter JJI and the NCKU-VLF station. Through analyzing the ISUAL elve and the amplitude of the Japan JJI VLF transmitter signals, elve generated by lightning with a peak current greater than ~150 kA is found to be accompanied by an amplitude change in the transmitter¡¦s VLF signals.
